Social Media is a great way to get Traffic

Getting traffic to your blog is one the major problems every blogger face at the beginning. But do what I do, make social media work for you. It won’t give you a million hits per day but you will surely see a difference in the amount of visitor/readers that comes to your blog.

There are many social media websites out there that will drive traffic to your blog, but the thing is that I am not familiar with all of them, but I will certainly share the ones that I am familiar with. Just in case are new to this thing or you were hiding somewhere under a rock, let me explain what is a social media website.

Social Media Websites are made with people in mind, it is where people can share articles, videos and even photos with other readers, basically its somewhere to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet. How this is done? If that’s what you are asking right now, it is a very simple process, it is done by submitting links and articles then readers will vote or comment on what you have submit and can follow the link back to your blog. After the jump you will see some of the best social media sites out there in no particular order.

Digg
This is one of the first Social Media Site I have ever used. It was launched sometime in November of 2004 by Kevin Rose, Owen Byrne, Ron Gorodetzky, and Jay Adelson. All of the founding fathers are still on board except for Owen Byrne. What Digg does is the basically the same thing as the other social sites but they have a unique voting process called “Digg”!. The more diggs you get on your post is the more it will move up on their site which makes your post more visible to over reader and that only mean one thing, More Traffic!!! Twitter
This is a new Social Media site that have gotten really really popular within just a few months. It was created in 2006 by a company out of San Francisco called Obvious Corp. There is a rumor at the moment that Google is looking to attain this new social media giant. What Twitter is all about, its a site where you register an account upload a picture and follow friend and what they are doing as they follow you back. Now you may say this is all about friends, How will this give me traffic? Well since twitter got popular there has been alot of applications developed which can be used to update your twitter account with your blog’s RSS feed. Each time you made a post on your blog, your twitter account will be updated with that post and a shorten version of the URL added so your followers can click on to your blog.

Stumble Upon
This is basically the same thing like Digg, it makes your discover things from all over the internet and share it with your friends. So what you will do is submit your articles/ blog post and share it with friends and other users of the service.

No thats not all of them, there are also popular once that I have used so far such as Mixx, Reddit, Delicious and Plurk. Just to clear up something, under the big umbrella of social media you may find different categories. For example the ones that are listed above are considered to fall under Social Bookmarking or social news.
