India may temporarily shut down BlackBerry services if security concerns are not addressed in a meeting on Thursday with the Canadian-Based company RIM, Makers of the BlackBerry Smartphone.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently announced that they would ban the Blackberry service and Saudi Arabia recently ban the service temporarily and later resume the service after meeting with representatives from RIM who hand over user codes that allows Saudi authorities monitor its Blackberry Messenger. Now India also jumps aboard the bandwagon with the possibility of shutting down BlackBerry services in the world’s second most populous country if security concerns are not addressed.
India, like several countries in the Middle East and North Africa, want access to encrypted Blackberry communication, which has been linked to militant activity including the Mumbai attacks in 2008 that killed 166 people.
These aren’t the only countries, as the German government has also banned politicians and civil servants from using the BlackBerry and the European Union Commission this month rejected the BlackBerry in favor of Apple’s iPhone and HTC smartphones.
