We all can come to a conclusion that Twitter is one of the leading micro blogging applications out there that has hundred of thousands if not millions of internet users. This is one of the micro blogging applications that most bloggers and SEO experts are using to target traffic to a blog.
Probably you are wondering why Twitter is categorized as a micro blogging application, well it is because it has a limit of 140 characters at Max per message sent by a user. It is the simplicity behind twitter which has put in to the front of the line with the other blogging applications are still at the back. It is a simple way to update your friends on what you are doing instead of sending an email to a friend that you are about to have lunch at your favorite restaurant which could be sort of annoying.
I hope you got the idea I was trying to bring across there, Now you see that Twitter is a hang out spot online where you can build your own community of followers who are interested in what you are doing at present.
Now you must be wondering how the traffic will come from Twitter. Well if you have a good amount of followers who you have good interaction with, then you can turn them into returning visitors to your blog.
But ofcourse you must understand how to optimize your account properly to drive traffic to your blog. Well follow these steps and I guarantee that you drive traffic from twitter.
1. Make sure your blog URI/URL link is on your profile. Look at the following image to see a perfect example.

If you are new to twitter and have no idea how to get your URL on your profile, then go to Settings and then click on the “account” tab, then look for the more info URL field.
2. Make sure that your Blog’s RSS Feed is displayed on your Twitter Profile.
Make sure that every article you post on your blog goes straight to your Twitter profile, so your followers can follow the link back to your blog. If you are using wordpress there are many plugins that can help with posting articles automatically but I use a service called Twitterfeed which is 100% free.
3. Find people and friends who are interested in the topics you blog about.
Twitter has 4 basic was in which you can find people, the reason for this is because not all the users on twitter will be interested in what you are blogging about so you want to find the ones in your niche.
The 4 options are:
+ Find On Twitter
+ Find on other networks
+ Suggested Users
+ Invite via Email
Basically you won’t need to use the invite via Email because more than likely you will already be linked with close friends, so you may want to focus on the “Find People”, Find on Twitter option.
First you need to do a search for people in your niche. I blog about getting traffic to your blog and making money online so I search for people who is making or want to make money online. See an example below.

Then follow users that come in the search results.

The reason to follow people who are interested in the same topics as you is very simple as they will be more interested to read your articles.
4. Follow those who follow you.
On Twitter I have noticed that if you are following a user who is already following you then it is easier to communicate with that user and this is what you want to do. After you start #3 then you need to set a time frame for users you are following to follow back, if not delete that user and move to the next in line.
5. Be an Active with Tweets
Being active is a vital part of driving traffic from twitter, respond to user messages and get involved in discussions your followers make, this will build a bond with your followers which will help in making them loyal visitors.
